Ferdinand VII 1/2 Real 1817 Mo-JJ, Mint state condition. Nicely toned and original. Scarce in this select quality. This type is an issue of the Mexico City mint, which was operated by the royalist until 1821, when it was taken over by the Iturbide regine. Several branch mints were opened during the War of Independence, including Zacatecas, Durango,Guanajuato and Chihuahua, but Mexico City remained the largest producer of coin. Recorded mintage; Unknown, Specification: 1.67 Grams, .903 fine silver.
These colonial period coins circulated freely in the many
