Description

Early American Tower Clocks
by Frederick Shelley. No two tower clocks are exactly alike. Published by the NAWCC, this book documents over 90 tower clock models documented in the book which have miraculously survived from the 1726-1870 period. This was the “Golden Age” of tower clock craftsmanship, a time when a few skilled men working alone or in small shops made a limited number of tower clocks of great variety. These surviving clock movements are covered in chronological order along with insightful biographies of their 54 makers, technical descriptions, and over 250 photograph illustrations, most published for the first time. An entirely separate part of the book documents all those known to have had an association with American tower clocks from 1668 to 1998. This alphabetical listing of about 200 names along with relevant detail provides the foundation for future research, discovery, and update. A comprehensive Tower Clock Glossary is also included. 236 pages. Hard cover with jacket. Copyright 1999. Mint condition. – Book 1,757
