Description
this is a wonderful cotton club lot.the lot consists of 2 different original nightclub programs & a matchbook cover.
the cotton club was a legendary new york nightclub which operated in harlem during the eras of prohibition & jim crow racial segregation.
Black, African American people could not initially patronize the cotton club, but the venue featured many of the most popular Black, African American entertainers.
program -
one of the programs is dated december 15, 1936.
this program features cab calloway, bill bojangles robinson.
loaded w photos & info.

numerous images of scantily clad women/partially naked women.
contains quotes from famous attendees such as babe ruth -
'i went to the collton club for fifteen minutes.
at the end of three hours i was still amused and anything but bored.'
very displayable.
there is some wear/damage that includes -
both covers have heavy central vertical crease that goes into a few pages.
front cover has a long diagonal cover crease, corner creases & a corner chip & many smudges/blemishes/scratches.
long bottom binding split & a small upper edge binding split.
back cover has creases/scratches, but the imagery of the women shows thru very nicely.
inside blank cover has staining in a corner area & some tape repairs on another corner.
calloway portrait has very mild central vertical crease.
robinson portrait has a central vertical crease w some scratches/flecks. but, his image shows thru very nicely.
last pg has some scratches.
4 pgs detached at 1 staple but still attached to the program.

one of the programs mentions that it's the third edition of the cotton club parade.

binding split which was amateurishly repaired w scotch tape.

some mild vertical creases from top to bottom - go thru-out, but are mild & don't deter.
cover has some other smaller cover creases.
inside blank cover has 2 pieces of old scotch tape on/near bottom edge.
matchbook cover -
the lot also includes a cotton club matchbook (no matches).
very displayable.
several creases from side to side, but not on imagery.
a scratch, but not on imagery.
terrific vintage cotton club lot!
