Description
This lot of 5 theatre programs are from plays seen in London and New York City. They include: the Empire Theatre, dated 1912 featuring "EVERYBODY'S DOING IT!"; the Broadhurst Theatre, dated 1929, on 44th Street, West of Broadway, NYC featuring "JUNE MOON"; Winter Garden, dated 1916, featuring A WORLD OF PLEASURE; Belasco Theatre, dated 1928 presenting LENORE ULRIC as MIMA; and the last program is from Chanin's 46th Street Theatre, dated 1928 and presenting "GOOD NEWS"All 5 programs are in good vintage condition. I do not know how to rate books or ephemera but aside from some normal age discoloration, and a few bent corners, I would give these "pretty good". The colors look bright and the Winter Garden program has some loose pages in the middle that escaped the staples, but all pages are present. They have a whiff of musty smell, as though from storage.
The advertising is incredible! Obviously its geared towards wealthy patrons who smoke. There are lots of ads for ladies and gentleman's clothiers, ladies' corsets and lingerie, fine dining and lodging both before and after the show, "automobilists" who need new tires, the Hudson Motor Car Company of New York, who built a beautiful Super-Six Limousine Automobile in 1916, Elizabeth Arden's Salon and on and on, all the finest, all the best....
"Be sure to check out the New Ziegfeld Midnight Folic after Theatre Suppers, featuring 30 most beautiful girls in the world"
These programs offer a fantastic look back one hundred years to see what elegant people were doing, eating, and buying. This was the life of the uber-rich.
They weigh 11 ounces and will ship via USPS in a flat rate padded envelope.
